This is the toughest entrance exam which is conducted every year for engineering aspirants. By clearing this exam, a student can get admission in one technical institute out of 16 Technology Institutes. A student who gets admission in IITs is sure to get very high placement package. As it is the one of the toughest entrance examination, so it has very low admission rate. In 2011, only 10 thousand out of 5 lakh students cleared the IIT exam.
In 2013, this entrance exam was replaced by two phase JEE exam. So an IIT aspirant now has to clear two particular JEE exams.
- JEE Main – The first stage of IIT is taken by lakhs of students from all over the world. This exam consists the questions from Physics, Chemistry, and Maths. Students get 3 hours for completing this exam. It is on to students as they want to give this exam offline or online. For giving this test, a student has to pass five subjects in his/her 12th class or clear a qualifying exam. Candidates can attempt this exam maximum for three times. - JEE Advanced – If students clear the JEE main exam, he/she would have to go for the second stage of the JEE. This entrance exam opens the path for admissions to IITs, NITs, and ISMs. From 5 lakh students, only 1.50 lakh students get the chance for appearing for this examination. Admissions to IITs and other institutes is considered after observing the All India Rank. This exam also comes in offline mode and students get 3 hours for completing all the questions. Mostly JEE advance is conducted in last week of May.
The Birla Institute of Technology and Science Admission Test is another popular engineering exam conducted every year. By clearing this test, students get admissions in various BITS campuses situated at Goa, Pilani, and Hyderabad. This examination is observed as less tough than IIT, but it also receive a high amount of competition. A student must acquire 75% marks in 12th standard for appearing in BITS exam. Due to high eligibility criteria, this exam gets less number of students than the IIT. The BITSAT examination paper comes of 4 sections- physics, chemistry, English, and mathematics. For every correct answer, student gets 3 marks and for every incorrect answer, one marks have been deducted from their total marks.
This entrance exam is conducted by the Vellore Institute of Technology. By clearing this entrance exam, students get admissions to VIT Vellore and other engineering institutes located at Chennai. Every year 1.50 lakh students appear for VIT exam and compete for 5000 engineering seats. Candidate must have got 60% marks in Physics, chemistry and biology/maths for giving this exam. The best thing about this exam is that there occur no negative marking 160 multiple choice questions. A student can attempt all easy and difficult questions in a span of 2.5 hours.
4. MU OET
Manipal University conducts the MU OET test for providing admissions to engineering aspirants in popular institutes. The colleges affiliated with Manipal University offer regular B.tech degrees to the meritorious students. Students must have cleared 12th class for giving this test. The MU test consists of 50 questions from physics, 50 from Chemistry, 70 from mathematics and 30 from general aptitude. Students need to complete all these questions within 2.5 hours. Every year more than lakh students appear for this entrance exam.
According to the level of difficulty many entrance exams are conducted annually for admissions to top most engineering institutes. In 2013, IIT was split into two tiers – JEE Main and JEE Advance.
